What started with a lomo saltado in a home kitchen and a lifelong love of Latin flavours. A journey to Peru turned that love into an obsession, from Lima's bustling markets to the warmth of family tables in the Andes. La Esquina de Mateo exists to bring the soul of Latin American cuisine to the UK, one plate at a time.

What started with a simple trip to Peru, began the whole journey. The instant love for the food, and the realisation of what's being missed back in the UK. Mateo has always had a love for good food and now, he feels like he has finally found his home. With Peru often ranking among the best in gastronamy, there's no wonder why the food was so appetising.
Here is when the love for food really became a lifestyle. While Mateo had always grown up in the UK and never imagined he would ever have the opportunity to move to another country. He made the jump, by deciding to move to Colombia, right in the center of all the worlds best food. Between both Mexico and Peru, gave him the opportunity to try, and fall in love with every dish that could be offered.
Some peoples journey begins from the moment they find their passion. But the story of La Esquina de Mateo starts here with his very own restaurant in the town in which he grew up in. A dream that could never be fathomed, but never underappriciated. This just marks the start of the journey at La Esquina de Mateo, with many more tasty years to come.
